Vision, Mission & Values

Vision

To become a center of excellence for education, research, and community service in the field of dry tropical forestry characterized by climate variability adaptability, sustainability, and a socio-economic-environmental conservation perspective within the Timor-Leste region.

Mission

1. Conduct high-quality academics to produce professional, competent, and competitive graduates in the management of dry tropical forest ecosystems, with specific expertise regarding high, moderate, and low rainfall regions.

2. Conduct research driven by the development of innovative and applicable science and technology, focused on solving real-world problems in the forestry sector, particularly concerning water resource conservation, the rehabilitation of degraded land, and climate change adaptation and mitigation within dry tropical forests.

3. Carry out community service through the application and dissemination of forestry science and technology rooted in local resources and traditional wisdom, aiming to sustainably improve the well-being of communities living near forests.

4. Develop synergistic strategic partnerships with government bodies, the business sector, non-governmental organizations, and other higher education institutions (both national and international) to support the implementation of the "Three Pillars of Higher Education" (education, research, and community service) and sustainable forest management in dry tropical regions.

5. Manage the department professionally, accountably, and transparently in accordance with national higher education standards, while fostering an academic culture conducive to the capacity building of faculty members, educational staff, and students.

Objective

To produce graduates with strong character who are competitive in the field of dry tropical forest management.
Generate adaptive science and technology innovations for three (3) rainfall zones (High, Moderate, Low).

Department History

The Department of Forestry was Established in 2024 under The Faculty of Agriculture at Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa'e.
